My Birthday Present

I've always believed that books make the most personalised gifts. You can have enough material possessions, but you will never have enough knowledge. And you need to know a person really well to find the right book. It's also a great way to deliver a message that you can't otherwise express.

So when my team asked my what I wanted for my birthday, I asked for Blankets. Saw shelfloads at Taka Kino a few months(?) back. My interest was piqued at the time, but plonked my cash for Bone.

Got my present today (minus the ribbon which I had to return). Was told that they had a hard time finding it (thanks Li Ren and Jane!) It was sold out at Kino, and the last copy was found at Borders (shame to the employee who said it was out of stock).

I'm glad too that I got some of them interested in borrowing the book. Yes, comics (I prefer the term graphic novel) can be literature. Pics here.

Quotes

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes. But the half-wit remains a half-wit, and the emperor remains an emperor.
- Morpheus, in The Sandman Vol. 9 : The Kindly Ones

On Location

Does this house look familiar? It's diagonally opposite my church, and used to be a provision shop. Ominously, this house is now for sale.

In Loving Memory

Gran passed away peacefully on Sun 25th Sep. She was 89. Although bedridden after a stroke, she was always mentally strong and free with her smiles, surprising the doctors and nurses making housecalls. We will miss you.

Let it be said that it's always good to have extended family gatherings. Everyone chipped in to organise and run the funeral. There's time to catch up with cousins, enjoy good food (My Mum's Place at 328 Joo Chiat Rd) and bitch about the only stuck-up neighbour on the street, whereas the rest were understanding and accomodating to the point of offering parking on their property.

Since we all agree that the eyes are the mirror to the soul, why not also admit that the lips are the mouthpiece of the heart?

The Last Movie?

When I first saw you that day I could immediately tell that your mind was preoccupied. You seemed troubled and burdened, and I was glad that you shared with me those thoughts later, and we were able to have an open conversation.

I enjoyed the movie with you, and it was comforting to hear your laughter. I was buoyed by your proximity and warmth, and you did not need extra clothing to keep warm after all.

Though you might not be aware at that time, I felt a sense of urgency for closure before we parted. This would later be fulfilled by the chain of events leading to the creation of this blog.

Will there be more "Coming Attractions", another "Akan Datang"?

Have you received the tickets?

Closer

Rented it over the weekend, and loved it. Definitely deserving of the Golden Globes won and Oscar nominations, compared to recent "critically acclaimed" films like Lost in Translation and Sideways. Simply brilliant in the way Brits can carelessly pepper what they say with "fuck" and yet stay profound.

Favorite line: "Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off, but it's better if you do."

Reviewed at my favorite DVD site:
"As Closer approaches its closing credits, we're left with the undeniable truth that happiness and selfishness are mutually exclusive."

Think Different

Sorry... nothing remotely related to Apple or iPod. In my opinion, the most innovative company of all.

Which is more than I can say for Gillette. How many more can they add?

Nestle Club

First candy you bought for me from Candy Empire, after finding out that I like dark chocolate. It was sneaky but super sweet of you to sneak it in my bag while I was queueing for food that night at Marina Square food mall. It's delicious!

The Esplanade

Have lots of great memories with you at the Esplanade. I was there on Friday night, lots of activity going around to celebrate the Mooncake Festival. Discovered the rooftop terrace which is a really great vantage point to soak in an unblocked view of the skyline and everything that's happening. Still relatively unknown, so hurry all you lovebirds out there, enjoy it while you can!

The rest of the pics here.

This SO describes me now. Listen to the song here.
